Nigeria: 2005 Census Not Political - Obasanjo

President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on politicians not to consider preparations for a national census in 2005, as a contest for political supremacy because census data were not only about population figures but were important indices for planning.

Speaking yesterday at the launching of the public enlightenment campaign for 2005 population and housing census, President Obasanjo said, "I wish to remind Nigerians particularly the political class, that census taking is not politics and should not therefore be a contest for political supremacy.
