Nigeria: Encouraging Reading Through Contract

Lagos — In today's Nigeria where reading especially amongst children is at its low ebb, any efforts at reviving the culture will surely do the country a world of good.

Executive Director, BrainGain Initiative Mr. Emeka Albert, whose organisation intends to change Nigerians' cold attitude to reading said at a press briefing in Lagos that parents are being asked to encourage their children by entering into "Contract" with them. Announcing the national reading campaign, Albert bemoaned the general attitude to reading in the country saying," it is a worrisome fact that Nigeria, while ranking among the world's most endowed nations in mineral and human resources has tens of millions of her citizens being ravaged by hunger, poverty, disease and many such social ills because of ignorance."
