African Authors to Speak at New York Literature Festival

The first-ever New York Festival of International Literature features writers from more than 45 countries, including African authors Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Breyten Breytenbach, Nuruddin Farah, Tsitsi Dangaremba, Achmat Dangor, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, and Wole Soyinka. The festival will run from April 16-22, 2005 in New York City.

Some highlights of the festival include:

April 17: Achmat Dangor in "World Literature Today: Writers from Three Hemispheres."

April 18: Nuruddin Farrah and Wole Soyinka in "The Power of the Pen: Does Writing Change Anything?"

April 19: "Africa and the World: The Writer's Role."

April 20: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in "A Believer Nighttime Event," as well as "Lunch and Conversation" with Tsitsi Dangarembga and Achmat Dangor.

April 22: Ng g wa Thiong'o in "Writing in a Different Language."
