United Nations Millennium Campaign Seeks to Fill Two Positions in Africa

COORDINATOR, AFRICA

The United Nations Millennium Campaign Coordinator in Africa is responsible for designing, executing and reporting on the Operational Plan and budget for the Millennium Campaign in the region, working in close partnership with NGOs, faith-based groups, social movements, trade unions, the UN system and other key partners.

Qualifications:
  • Deep knowledge of African development issues;
  • High credibility with African Civil Society and social movements;
  • Proven track record in successful policy advocacy, lobbying, and campaigning at a senior level for at least 5 years;
  • Fluent English communication capability, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to deliver quality results within tight deadlines;
  • Capacity to work independently in a cross-national context;
  • Competent in basic IT use
Key Responsibilities:
  • Build partnerships with key regional CSOs,, faith-based organizations and social movements in close conjunction with the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (www.whiteband.org);
  • Build strong Local Authority and youth-driven campaigns;
  • Create strong links with regional institutions;
  • Coordinate with the UN System in furthering the Millennium Campaign;
  • Recommend and oversee financial, managerial and policy support to partners;
  • Oversee all contractual and reporting requirements;
  • Link African campaigns with the international campaign;
  • Ensure maximum synergies with the global resources of the Millennium Campaign

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR, AFRICA

The Communications Coordinator, in consultation with the African Campaign Coordinator, key Millennium Campaign partners in the region and the Millennium Campaign Communications team in New York, will be responsible for managing and implementing all of the media and communication needs of the Millennium Campaign and key African campaign partners engaged in activities in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGS).

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, journalism or other relevant discipline. Master's degree is preferred
  • At least five years experience working in communications and media function with a demonstrable track record of success in awareness-raising, and development and delivery of original communications and media concepts and products
  • A solid knowledge of African media and communications environment and established contacts within that environment.
  • A sound understanding of effective media and communication practices including writing and issuing press releases, arranging press conferences and communicating with various media outlets to pitch story ideas
  • Are a "Big Ideas" person, an independent, self-starter, looking for a new challenge and opportunity to apply your skills and experience
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, execute and oversee national media and communications needs and activities for the UN Millennium Campaign and key Millennium Campaign partners in Africa.
