This film reveals the dangers and emotional conflicts journalists covering conflicts face everyday. The film tells the controversial story of South African journalist Kevin Carter who's photos taken in conflict torn southern Sudan gained him fame and criticism.
Many have watched documentaries or seen photos of some of the world's most heartbreaking humanitarian situations. What one may sometimes ask oneself is whether or not the person behind the camera ever stopped to help the the victims whose photos garnered them international attention and recognition. These questions surrounded Kevin Carter who took a what would be famous shot of a Sudanese refugee. the refugees was a young girl who collapsed after no longer being able to walk, but as she crouched on the ground, a vulture nearby stalked, as if waiting for her impending.
Kevin Carter was praised for his skills as a photographer but demonized by many for not putting the camera down to help the young refugee. This documentary looks at Kevin Carter's life in the context of his fellow South African journalists who called themselves the “Bang Bang Club” and the detrimental impact his profession had on his life.
