Africa: U.S. Secretary of State Heading to Ethiopia

Washington, DC — United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will attend a meeting of leaders from the Great Lakes Region on Wednesday, December 5 in Addis Abba, Ethiopia, the State Department announced Thursday. The agenda of the meeting will focus on issues of regional peace and security.

African countries which plan to take part include Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda.

Rice will also consult with cabinet ministers from East African countries and senior representatives of the African Union and United Nations on the current situation in Somalia and the status of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan.

While in Ethiopia, Rice plans to speak with officials from the Ethiopian government.

After the meeting, Rice is planning travel to Brussels to participate in a NATO meeting.
