Tunis — The 2008 Annual Conference of the Association for Human Resources Management in International Organizations (AHRMIO) begins at the Renaissance Regency Hotel on Tuesday in Tunis, under the sponsorship of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group.
The 16-17 September gathering has been designed to provide a unique opportunity for networking in the international Human Resources (HR) world, with participants from 59 member organizations, as well as AHRMIO sponsors and other supporters, amongst them, distinguished management academics.
It will be preceded by the Associations' General Assembly at the same venue on Monday afternoon.
The opening ceremony on Tuesday will be presided over by Roger Eggleston, President Emeritus of AHRMIO and Daniel Tytiun, AfDB Group Director of Human Resources.
Participants will then listen to a key presentation on "The Impact of Gender Parity on Team Performance", to be delivered by Lamia Walker, Associate Director of the Lehman Brothers' Centre for Women in Business of the London Business School.
Other topics on the agenda of the conference are: "Sharing Knowledge Globally", by Sandhya Karpe, Senior Director of Executive Development Programs, and Mukul Pandya, Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief of Knowledge@Wharton at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; "Idea Management in the 21st Century", by Bernie Sander, President of IT Innovation Transfer, Inc. (Ottawa).
Wednesday's major theme titled, "Leadership as a Uniting and Creative Force in Organizational Development" will be delivered by Rudi Plettinx, Vice-President for Europe, Africa and the Middle East of the Center for Creative Leadership, Brussels.
This will be followed by "Good HR Practices in the International Public Sector: Results of Latest AHRMIO Research", to be delivered by lan Wild, AHRMIO's Geneva research project coordinator, Ivy Arcos and Cassandra Caceres, two of AHRMIO's IOMBA/University of Geneva researchers. (IOMBA researchers are sponsored under internships by WTO, OECD and IMF). Participants will also listen to a final presentation titled, "Inspirational Leadership - Lessons from Shakespeare", to be delivered by Robin Alfred, Lead Presenter for Olivier Mythodrama.
Established in 2000, AHRMIO includes some 55 international organizations (the UN family, international financial institutions and a wide range of NGOs), together with HRM specialists as individual members. The Association is a global forum where information is exchanged on research and practices at the cutting edge of HR management in the international environment, and where HR practitioners develop their professional expertise to enhance their effectiveness. The Association also provides ideas and solutions to support the strategic development of international organizations by bringing together specialists from those organizations with private sector practitioners and distinguished academics.
AHRMIO will also organize an HR Specialists Training Programme seminar from 18-19 September 2008, to be facilitated by Professor Chris Brewster of Henley Management College, UK and Dr Paul Boselie of the University of Tilburg, The Netherlands.
