South Africa: ANC Announces Victory Rally

1.50pm: Fresh figures from the Independent Electoral Commission's result centre continue to show the ruling ANC leading the pack with 3,721,550 votes, while the DA has 1,054,819 and COPE is lagging behind with 462,196, reports politicsweb.

The IFP has 162,321 votes nationally, of which 130,467 were cast in its home province of KwaZulu-Natal. At this stage, it lags the ANC in the province, with only 24 percent of the vote against the ANC's 64 percent. In the 2004 election, the IFP had 37 percent of the vote and the ANC 47 percent.

ANC president Jacob Zuma will this afternoon address a post-election celebration party in Johannesburg, says the party. The celebration, which will also be addressed by leaders from the  ANC's union and Communist Party alliance partners, will be held in Johannesburg's Library Gardens area adjacent to ANC headquarters in the city centre.
