AfDB Launches Water and Sanitation Project in Malawi

The African Development Bank (AfDB) launched in Lilongwe on 28 and 29 May 2009 a Water and Sanitation project. The 5 year project with a total cost of US$47.2 million is part of the National Water Development Programme being implemented by the Malawi Government under the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Development.

The launching workshop which was attended by key Government officials and project staff in the Coordination Unit was facilitated by the Malawi Field Office and supported by Water and Sanitation Department. In his remarks, the AfDB Resident Representative Mr. Frank Kufakwandi explained that the workshop provides an opportunity for the Government and the Bank to share information and exchange views for the successful implementation of the project. He further emphasized on the need to measure, monitor and report on results. In her remarks, the Principal Secretary, Mrs. Andrina Mchiela thanked the Bank for the support it provides to Malawi and assured Government's commitment to the successful implement of the project.
