Tunis, June 9th, 2009- The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Donald Kaberuka, will participate in the World Economic Forum on Africa, which takes place from 10-12 June 2009, in Cape Town, South Africa on the theme: "Effects of the Global Economic Crisis on Africa".
This 19th edition of the World Economic Forum provides leaders and their partners with a unique platform to discuss measures to be taken to mitigate the effects of the crisis and to establish a roadmap to enable the continent return to the path of growth.
The AfDB's 2009 Africa Competitiveness Report will be launched at the meeting.
Since the outbreak of the international financial crisis, the AfDB has been proactive in responding to this challenge. In addition to its research activities to better analyze the financial crisis, the Bank Group organized, in November 2007 in Tunis, a ministerial conference which resulted in the establishment of a Committee of Ten, which presented a report on the Impact of the Crisis on African economies, submitted to the G20 Summit in London in April 2009.
Going forward, the AfDB is also implementing several initiatives, including an Emergency Liquidity Facility and a Trade Finance Initiative.
The financial crisis was also the dominant theme of the 2009 Annual Meetings of the AfDB, held on 13 and 14 May in Dakar, Senegal.
