Tunis, August 28, 2009 - A five-member U.S. congressional delegation will pay an official visit to the African Development (AfDB) Group on Friday, August 28, 2009 in Tunis, where they will be received by the institution's senior management.

During the visit, the delegates will learn about the work of the AfDB Group in the service of Africa's economic and social development. The visit will also be an opportunity to discuss development issues on the continent, including those related to the financial crisis, its impact on African economies and the AfDB's response.

The AfDB Group has adopted a 2008-2012 Medium-Term Strategy, setting as its main objectives infrastructure and private sector development, the strengthening of higher education and the promotion of governance. Given the current context, the AfDB has registered a record increase of requests for funding from Regional Member Countries.

The delegation, led by Representative Greg Meeks, Democrat (New York), includes Jack Kingston, Republican (Georgia); Marcia Fudge, Democrat (Ohio); Sheila Jackson Lee, Democrat (Texas); and Melvin Watt, Democrat (North Carolina).
