AfDB President Kaberuka Addresses European Parliament's Development Commission

Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, on Thursday, September 3, 2009, visited the European Parliament in Brussels where he delivered one of the keynote addresses to the European Parliament's new development commission.

The meeting's focus was on the impact of the international response to the global financial crisis and the global structural reform of financing and aid on developing countries. Parliamentarians and Mr. Kaberuka exchanged perspectives on the Bank's response to the financial crisis to mitigate its impact on African countries. They also examined the impact of the economic and financial crisis on developing countries and development cooperation. Besides his working session at the development commission, Mr. Kaberuka had a working session with the European Union's new development commissioner, Karel De Gught of Belgium. Discussions focused, among other things, on the strengthening of cooperation between the European Commission and the Bank Group as well as on aid to be provided to African countries greatly affected by the crisis.
