AWF Approves Grant for Regional Water Policy in ECCAS

Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, has approved a €1,430,000 grant from the African Water Facility (AWF) for the implementation of the regional water policy within the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS). Estimated at € 2,263,000, the project will attract €1,430,000 from the African Water Facility, while IPPF-NEPAD will contribute €490,000.

In May 2006, ECCAS Water Ministers established and adopted a framework to resolve issues related to water resources management. On this basis, a proposal was presented to the AWF to support the implementation of a regional water policy. .

The project's objective is to improve ECCAS's socio-economic and environmental conditions in view of reducing poverty, thanks to better management of water resources and strengthening of regional economic integration.
