Joint OECD-AfDB Intitiative to Support Business Integrity And Anti-Bribery Efforts in Africa

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) launched a Joint Initiative to Support Business Integrity and Combat Bribery Efforts in Africa. This Initiative aims to assist African countries in their fight against bribery of public officials in business transactions and to improve corporate integrity and accountability.

The Initiative has recently conducted a Stocktaking Report of Business Integrity and Anti-Bribery Legislation, Policies and Practices in Twenty African Countries, which will largely form the basis of identifying a Course of Action that will underpin the Initiative and shape its execution.

To this end, on 18 December 2009, a technical meeting is taking place at the AfDB in Tunis, and gathers the OECD, AfDB and other international organisations based in the region and working on anti-corruption issues. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the Stocktaking Report and, drawing from the expertise of all of organizations and participants involved, identify the issues facing African countries in this field and set out the Course of Action.
