On 6 February 2010, President Kaberuka concluded a three-day official mission to the People's Republic of China. The President visited the southern city of Shenzhen, home to two famous ICT firms, and also major investors in Africa's IT sector, Huawei and ZTE. The President also held consultations with both firms' senior management.

During his visit to China, President Kaberuka held consultations with Chinese officials on the Bank's General Capital Increase and the African Development Fund. He also had discussions with representatives of the China Development Bank, the China EximBank, the People's Bank of China, the China-Africa Development Fund, and the Ministry of Railway. The President also hosted a luncheon for African Ambassadors accredited to China, and gave a lecture at the International Poverty Reduction Center.

At the end of his visit, the President remarked that "while China's experience was unique and not wholly transferable to Africa, there were important and relevant lessons for African countries from China's experience in reducing poverty on such a large scale and in one generation through rapid economic growth which was strong, sustained and broadly shared".
