Ecobank expands in Eastern Africa

Dar es Salaam — Ecobank, the leading pan-African bank has opened for business in Tanzania, bringing to 29 the number of countries in Africa in which it has banking operations.

The commencement of operations in Tanzania means that Ecobank is now the first banking group to be fully present in all the countries of the nascent East Africa Economic Community, ready to support the growing economic and financial integration of the sub-region.

The new branch in Tanzania offers a full range of retail and commercial banking products and services as well as foreign exchange and capital markets expertise. This is the first of many branches scheduled to be opened in the country with plans for a second branch already well underway. Over the medium term, Ecobank aims to build a network of branches in major cities across Tanzania.

Arnold Ekpe, Chief Executive Officer, Ecobank Group said: "Ecobank is delighted to start operations in Tanzania.
