AfDB President on Official Visit to Japan

The African Development Bank President, Donald Kaberuka, will, from April 2 to April 6 2010, be on an official visit to Japan. His visit will take him to Osaka and Tokyo.

While in Tokyo, he will meet with several senior government officials, as Deputy Prime Minister/Finance Minister, Ministers of Trade, Economy and Industry and Foreign Ministry. President Kaberuka will also meet with Japan Cooperation International Agency's (JICA) President, Ms Sadako Ogata.

An AfDB member country, Japan is an important global development player. As a G8 and G20 member, Japan is a key player in negotiations on general capital increase for global financial institutions. Mr. Kaberuka's visit will be an opportunity to brief Japanese authorities on the negotiation process for a general capital increase for the AfDB and ADF-12.

Besides his discussions with Japanese authorities, President Kaberuka and his delegation will participate in various seminars where they will present AfDB operations in the private sector and possible business opportunities for Japanese companies in Africa. He will also be meeting with Japanese business people in Osaka, where a presentation will feature AfDB operations, AfDB's role on the continent, and AfDB-Japan partnership. A meeting with African ambassadors accredited to Japan is also scheduled. The delegation will include the AfDB executive director for Japan, Tetsuya Utamura, as well as several AfDB directors and managers.
