The Making Finance Work for Africa Partnership launched today www.mfw4a.org, a website that, for the first time, centralizes knowledge, news, and opinions on African financial sectors.

The Making Finance Work for Africa Partnership was established to coordinate financial sector development efforts on the continent amongst African governments, the private sector, and development organizations. Hosted by the African Development Bank in Tunis, the MFW4A Secretariat facilitates coordination of development projects, manages the website and advocates for financial sector development.

"I believe the launch of the Making Finance Work for Africa website marks a major milestone for financial sector development knowledge in Africa: by gathering previously decentralized information, the website will serve as a knowledge hub for financial sector development practitioners, country authorities, academics, and researchers alike. In addition, the website will serve as a platform to raise awareness on the importance of financial sector development for poverty reduction across the African continent", says Stefan Nalletamby, Coordinator of the MFW4A Partnership.

The MFW4A website centralizes previously scattered knowledge in an intuitive, easy-to-navigate fashion. It provides hundreds of links and documents for which people would otherwise have to search long and hard, for example financial sector development data for countries and background information on topics such as capital markets, regional financial integration, and remittances. In addition to these resources, members of the MFW4A Financial Journalist Network regularly publish lively reports on a range of financial sector issues across the continent.

The website also includes a blog, the Africa Finance Forum, where renowned financial sector experts, practitioners and academics debate current issues in African finance and where users can take part in the discussion. All in all, this multidimensional website brings together, for the first time, the vast amounts of pertinent information on financial sector development, an essential dimension for reducing poverty in Africa.
