Bank Group President Defends AfDB's Role at Africa-France Summit

Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, on Monday, May 31, 2010, in Nice, France, participated in the 25th Africa-France Summit which brought together twenty-five heads of state and government. Three themes are scheduled for discussions during a close session by heads of state and their delegations. This includes Africa's place in global governance, strengthening peace and security as well as climate change and development. Besides bilateral discussions with the leaders, Mr. Kaberuka participated in a seminar held on the theme: "Facilitating Business Access to Financing in Africa."

Standing by French economy minister, Christine Lagarde, Mr. Kaberuka underscored the importance the AfDB attaches to human capital development, training, infrastructure development and the banking sector. The AfDB is the institution of reference when it comes to facilitating investments on the continent. He outlined AfDB actions regarding the development of the continent's private sector. He also shed light on important actions carried out by the AfDB regarding guarantee mechanisms and to improve the continent's business environment. On the sidelines of the summit, Mr. Kaberuka was a guest of French TV, TV5-Monde.
