On 18 June 2010, the African Water Facility (AWF)'s Effectiveness Assessment Committee will meet to review and discuss the report of an AWF Effectiveness Assessment that started since November 2009 and is at a critical stage. The Committee was established by the Governing Council of the Facility to review and advise it on the work of the effectiveness assessment.

In accordance with the AWF Operational Procedures, an Operations Effectiveness Assessment (OEA) of the Facility was required to review the operational activities and the institutional set-up to determine the effectiveness of the AWF, and identify areas of improvement needed to achieve its objectives and mandate.

Hydroconseil of France (in Association with WEDC of the United Kingdom) was hired as the consultant to carry this important assignment. The Consultants submitted a preliminary report which resulted in a review meeting at the African Development Bank (AfDB) on 19 May 2010. This provided a ground for two special meetings that had been held so far to discuss the findings of the Consultants. The first special session was held in Paris with the AWF donors on 18 March 2010, and the second session took place in Pretoria with the stakeholder group from 26-27 April 2010.

The Tunis meeting is an opportunity for the Committee of the Governing Council to review the draft report; make recommendations which will guide the process of the final report to be submitted for consideration at the next AWF Governing Council extraordinary meeting planned for July 2010.

The Committee comprises seven members: two members appointed by African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW); two members appointed by the Donors and one representative each from the African Development Bank, UN Water/Africa and the African Union represented by the NEPAD Secretariat.
