The official launch of the (Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) will take place on 24 July 2010, on the sidelines of the 15th African Union Summit in Kampala, Uganda.
The objective of the launch is to inform and promote PIDA activities to the general public. It will also be an opportunity to educate all stakeholders on the implementation of the Programme.
Prominent participants at the meeting include several heads of state and ministers, the African Union Commission chairman, the UNECA executive Secretary, the general secretaries of regional economic communities, donor representatives, partners, civil society and the private sector representatives.
The programme's overall goal is to promote socio-economic development and reduce poverty in Africa through improved access to integrated regional and continental infrastructure networks and services.
PIDA is a continent-wide program designed to develop a vision, policies, strategies and a programme for the development of priority regional and continental infrastructure in the transport, energy, trans-boundary water and ICT sectors.
The PIDA initiative is being led by the African Union Commission (AUC), the NEPAD Secretariat and the African Development Bank. The Bank is the Executing Agency for the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA).
