The African Development Bank (AfDB) President, Donald Kaberuka, took the opportunity of his presence in Kampala to attend the 15th African Union Summit held from 25-27 July 2010 and to meet with various senior government officials including Mrs. Syda Bbumba, Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development; and other ministers in charge of key portfolios such as water and environment; works and transport; and energy and mineral development.

On behalf of the government, Mrs. Bbumba congratulated the President on his re-election and on the historic General Capital Increase that will enable the Bank to enhance support to its member countries.

She also expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship that Uganda enjoys with the Bank and noted the significant support that the country has received from the institution.

For his part, President Kaberuka commended the government for the continued sound macroeconomic management that had ensured the country's resilience to adverse shocks such as the global financial crisis.

He also commended efforts made by the authorities towards ensuring that the Bank's portfolio remained healthy and for promptly addressing problems that affect its performance.

Mr. Kaberuka reiterated the Bank's readiness to assist the government in ensuring that the economy becomes stronger and more vibrant in line with the vision articulated in the recently launched National Development Plan.
