Uganda: Promote Health Practices As Alternative to Art Treatment

Uganda is currently battling with the challenge of ensuring that people living with HIV (PLHIV) who are eligible for treatment access ARVs. With donor support and self-financing, the government has only managed to place 180,000 out of 365,000 adults who need ART Drugs on treatment. This implies that thousands of PLHIVS are at risk of early death if they are not enrolled on treatment.

In a situation where there is limited financing for ARVs, it is important to promote simple practices that can keep those who test HIV positive healthy and strong for long before they start on ARVS. These healthy practices have been termed as positive living. It is worth noting that the national ART guidelines stipulate that all people who test HIV positive do not have to start on treatment immediately.
