The 2nd Council meeting of the African Tax Administrators Forum (ATAF) will take place from 15-16 November 2010 in Tunis. Co-hosting the 2nd ATAF meeting is in line with the African Development Bank's objective to help in strengthening domestic resources mobilization, fiscal self reliance and capacity development in Africa as well as to reinforce the Bank's strategic partnership with ATAF. Dozens of participants will attend the meeting.

At a conference hosted by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in Pretoria on "Taxation, State Building and Capacity Development" in Africa in August 2008; commissioners and senior officials of 28 African Tax Administrations recognized the need to develop the required capacity and specialized skills of their respective administrations. The conference made a commitment to establish the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) to provide leadership and achieve the goals which are critical to Africa's development objectives.

The main objectives of ATAF are

To become the central platform for African Tax Administrators;

To articulate African tax priorities;

To develop and share best practices in the region; and,

To build capacity in African tax policy and administration
