EU/AU Professional photo competition close submission of candidatures with more than 400 entries

The deadline for submission of applications to contest for the EU/AU professional photography competition was today, Thursday 23 December 2010. More than 150 photographers, applied for the competition and over 400 photos were collected from across the continent.

“African Beauty in all its states” was jointly organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Delegation of the European Union to the African Union. The competition invited entries from professional photographers; African and European living in Africa giving their original and contemporary view on the idea of beauty on the continent.

Malian photographer Mr. Malike Sidibe and Ms. Christine Barthe, curator of the photographic collection at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, France, will now sift through the entries and select the five winners from each of Africa’s regions – North, South, East, West and Central. The winners will be announced in January 2011.

The regional winners will then be invited to attend the upcoming Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, whose theme is “Towards Greater Unity and Integration Through Shared Values.” The winning photographs will be exhibited during the summit. One overall winner selected from the five finalists will be awarded photographic equipment worth 3000 euro and regional winners will receive 1000 euro worth prizes. All will be offered to take part in specially designed photography workshop.
