Johannesburg — Acting President Kgalema Motlanthe late on Thursday moved to allay the nation's fears over the health of former president Nelson Mandela, who was spending the second night in a Johannesburg hospital after undergoing "routine" checks.
Motlanthe quashed rumours that the elder statesman had died and said: "I want to assure the nation and the world that the former president is in high spirits, and has been visited by his family and friends.
