Delegates attending the 6-10 June Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group will devote considerable time and energy in discussions about climate change and efforts to address its impact on Africa.

The first discussion on the subject on the theme, "Green Growth Now: an African Perspective," will be chaired by AfDB President, Donald Kaberuka, on 7 June.

During this session, an expert panel will discuss ways policy makers and other stakeholders can stimulate Africa's green economy. Financing tools will be presented followed by updates and debate on the Inga hydropower, a major renewable energy project for the continent.

Energy and climate change will be further examined at the high-level forum on Powering Africa: Financing Energy, Green Growth and Climate Change on 8 June. Ministers and other high level public and private sector representatives will examine the paradigm shift to clean energy, its opportunities, incentives, and trade-offs.

A side-event on the same day will focus on how climate change is affecting the water and sanitation sector in Africa's development.

A photo exhibition illustrating AfDB projects and its efforts in tackling the challenges posed by climate change will run throughout the duration of the meetings.

The exhibition will further underscore the importance of an Africa Green Fund to finance African countries' efforts in mitigation and adaptation, and financing low-carbon development programs.

A multimedia exhibition on the theme, "Preserving African Forests", will seek to raise awareness on how commercial logging, mining, and converting wild forests for agricultural purposes posed huge risks to the continent's ecosystem.
