The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Meets with UN Secretary General, On The Margins of the AU Extraordinary Summit

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Jean Ping received in his Office at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, on 25 May 2011, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, on the margins of the Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union on the State of Peace and Security in Africa.

The Chairperson thanked the UN Secretary General for accepting his invitation to attend the AU Extraordinary Summit and discussed with him the latest developments in Libya, Sudan, Somalia and Côte d'Ivoire.

The Chairperson and the UN Secretary General reiterated the importance for AU and UN to maintain close cooperation and coordination in addressing the peace and security challenges in the continent.
