Several Heads of State and Government will participate in a High-Level event on Post-Conflict Peace-building: the Experience of Rwanda, to be held in Kigali on the 8th and 9th of November, 2011.

Although Rwanda experienced one of the most violent conflicts of the 20th century, the country has achieved a lot of success in reconciliation, reconstruction and development since the conflict ended. This was the result of a combination of leadership, national ownership, and innovative approaches to governance and employment generation with the support of the international community.

The conference will provide a platform to reflect on Rwanda's experience in tackling post-conflict challenges and on the lessons learned from this experience.

Earlier this year, Ambassador Eugène-Richard Gasana, Rwanda's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the UN Peace-building Commission. In his inaugural statement, Ambassador Gasana underscored "the solidarity of Rwanda with other post-conflict countries to share its experience in post-conflict reconciliation, reconstruction and development."

The conference will bring together leaders of key international and regional organizations as well as experts to enrich discussions and provide external analytical perspectives.
