Senegal: Abdoulaye Wade Will Be Humiliated

PRESIDENT Abdoulaye Wade got 35% of the vote in the first round of Senegal's presidential election on Sunday, and opposition politician Macky Sall got 26%. Wade now faces a humiliating run-off in the second round on March 18.

Wade has betrayed himself. He came to power in 2000 as a veteran opposition politician. He immediately introduced a two term limit that established his credentials as a reformer. He has now betrayed his own legacy by reneging on that promise, even if a handpicked court legitimised it.
