East Africa: Mining Firm to Invest U.S.$8.5 Million in Infrastructure

Dar es Salaam — A Few weeks after President Jakaya Kikwete inaugurated the Extractive Industries Corporate Social Responsibility and Empowerment Presidential Award (EI-CSREPA), some mining companies in the country responded to the government call to support the local communities.

African Barrick Gold through its North Mara Gold Mines becomes the first to announce a three-year investment worth US$8.5million for community infrastructure in Mara region. The deal will see all the seven villages surrounding the North Mara mine get better infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
