Tanzania: Correction Submitted by BG Tanzania

8 March 2013

AllAfrica received the following statement from BG Tanzania regarding an East African Business Week article that was carried on our site and was subsequently taken down by East African Business Week and by us:

In response to an article in the East African Business Week, 4-10 March 2013, BG Tanzania would like to state unequivocally that the company is not linked to Barrick Gold.  A number of other errors also appeared in the article, for the sake of clarification:

  • BG Tanzania has invested $800 million in Tanzania to date, by the end of the 2013 drilling program this figure will be approximately $1 billion.
  • BG Tanzania has invested just over $1 million in a partnership with the Vocational Education and Training Authority Tanzania and the UK's Voluntary Service Organisation in an oil and gas skills programme in Mtwara.  A similar programme is scheduled to start in Lindi in the near future.

BG Tanzania is a wholly owned subsidiary of BG Group plc, a world leader in natural gas.
