Kenya: Lobby Says No to Demos Ban

HUMAN Rights Agenda has threatened to petition the Police Service Commission and CIC over a ban on demonstrations and public gatherings. Police boss David Kimaiyo has issued a directive to ban public gatherings. In a press statement yesterday, project officer Eric Mgoja termed the directive unconstitutional.

Huria will petition the Commission on Administrative Justice and the KNCHR to provide direction. Huria said the ban can only be called for when the country is at war, when there is a natural disaster, general insurrection or an invasion.
