Liberia: A Difficult Senatorial Race in Bassa - Unknown Factor Complicates Predictions

The most intriguing concern of everybody (electorates and candidates) right now as political campaign for the Grand Bassa senatorial by-election slated for May 7 this year is: 'who will emerge victorious?' A simple majority is what is needed to clinch the vacant seat at the upper house (the Senate), but the race is clearly an unpredictable one although certain candidates are proving to be famous, popular and influential amongst the people of Grand Bassa County.

Being popular is never a 100 percent assurance that a candidate has won, given what we have seen in recent national elections. Surely, a candidate in this race will somehow hope that his/her political, philanthropic and social activities play a significant part in luring more supporters. Supporters will not be the right term if I was in the shoe of any contestant right now. 'Registrar voters' are clearly those who have the right to participate in this poll, so the candidates will want to get the support of the voters.
