The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) joins the international media and communications community on Friday, May 3, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the World Press Freedom Day.

This year's World Press Freedom Day is on the theme "Safe to Speak: Securing Freedom of Expression in All Media," with special focus on the protection of the rights of journalists to do their vital work.

The occasion provides an opportunity to highlight the fundamental principles of media freedom and assess its implementation across the globe. It offers the AfDB an opportunity to reiterate the important role of the media in Africa's development.

In this regard, a "Media Corner" has been launched on the AfDB website to facilitate interaction with the media.

AllAfrica publishes around 500 reports a day from more than 100 news organizations and over 500 other institutions and individuals, representing a diversity of positions on every topic.
