According to unions representing soldiers, the South African Defence Force (SANDF) is still discriminating against members on the basis of their HIV status.

Both the South African Security Forces Union (Sasfu) and the South African National Defence Union (Sadnu) claim that there are widespread abuses regarding recruiting, deploying and promoting troops.
