Gambia: Forestry Department Conducts Massive Tree Planting At Bondali BCS

The Department of Forestry in collaboration with the Patriotic Youth Association for Development in Foni Bondali District has planted 360 trees at Bondali Basic Cycle School in the West Coast Region. The planted trees include mangoes, oranges, cashews, eucalyptus. The planting exercise is in response to the call made by the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, during this year's dialogue with the people tour, to officials of the Forestry department to plant trees in school premises so as to make the school environment green.

Sutay Colley, representative of the chief of Foni Bondali, thanked the villagers and youth of Foni Bondali for their large turn-out to the tree planting exercise. He noted that President Jammeh's call for Gambians to plant trees is for the sustainability of the environment and for posterity. Colley urged the school to protect the planted trees and thanked the director of Forestry for the initiative. Babucarr Badjie, a senior forestry officer, deputising for the West Coast Region forestry officer, commended participants for their positive response to the tree planting exercise. He took the opportunity to call on Gambians to respond to the President's 'back to the land' call and to plant more trees for the sustainability of the environment.
