Ethiopia: PM Halemariam Urges Africa to Establish Own Media Network

Delegates to the 6th African Media Leadership Forum at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa headquarters in Addis Ababa in November 2013.

In a keynote address to the forum, Hailemariam said Africa can only be heard if it speaks with one voice, highlighting the role of the continent's media in this regard. He said African media leaders and journalists have a key role in building the continent's image and changing it for the better.

The continent's media should strive to portray it as the world's emerging union of states determined to push ahead along the path of democracy and development, he said. To this end, he stressed the need to have a continental media network run by independent professionals to portray Africa in a favorable light on a global scale.
