Addis Ababa — The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, Mr. Carlos Lopes has been named one of this year's 100 most influential Africans in the Pan African Publication, New African Magazine.
Responding to the annual end of year honor roll on social media, Mr. Lopes said he was honored to make the list amongst great company and talent.
"One of my definitions of influence is to feed peoples thoughts and start a chain of intervention of active citizens throughout the world," he said on his Facebook page.
The publication honored Mr. Lopes alongside other African personalities, including the Chairperson of the African Union, Madame Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Mr. Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank.
The list features individuals that move markets and sway decisions and in the December 2013 issue, the magazine notes that there are many more positive trends on the continent than negative - the majority on the list we call "Proudly African".
This year's list is split into eight categories, including: Politics, Business, Civil Society, Media, Religion and Traditional, Science & Technology, Arts and Culture and Sport. Every entry features an insightful profile detailing recent career highlights and achievements - as well as some memorable quotes.
