Libya: Jihadi Leader Belmokhtar Alive in Libya and Plotting Attacks, Sources

The Sahara jihadi leader behind last year's bloody hostage-taking at the In Amenas gas plant is alive and plotting new attacks in Libya, security sources say, contradicting earlier reports of Mokhtar Belmokhtar's death.

Belmokhtar, an Algerian citizen, was regarded as a key member of Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqim) until he reportedly fell out with leader Abou Zeid and formed the Khaled Abu al-Abbas Brigade, also known as Masked Brigade or the Signatories in Blood.
