Addis Ababa — ECA's annual flagship report, the Economic Report on Africa, published in collaboration with the African Union Commission will be launched in Addis Ababa on 12 May 2014 at the UN Conference Centre, as part of an ongoing multi-city rollout.
The 2014 report, themed, 'Dynamic Industrial Policy in Africa: Innovative Institutions, Effective Processes and Flexible Mechanism' uses 11 country case studies to assess the critical ingredients for spurring Africa's industrialization - innovative institutions, effective processes and flexible mechanisms - and structural transformation.
The report is being launched at a time when Africa is emerging as a central region for global growth. It makes the argument that it is required for African countries to institute credible industrial policies as well as institutions that will advance structural transformation on the continent if industrialization is to successfully occur.
The State Minister for Industry, Ato Tadesse, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association; as well as private sector stakeholders are expected to be present at the event to discuss the findings of the report
The event is expected to bring together officials from the diplomatic missions, United Nations agencies and relevant policy makers, including researchers, academic institutions, private sector stakeholders and government officials to discuss the policy recommendations of the report.
