Nigeria: Fifa Suspends Nigeria Over NFF Board Sacking

The quadrennial negative relationship between Nigeria and the world football body, FIFA, resurfaced again last night with the expected suspension of the country from all football related matters. At the end of the FIFA Emergency Committee meeting held yesterday, it had to suspend the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), with immediate effect, on account of government's interference.

Only last Sunday, in a bid to avoid the hammer, the Sports Minister and Chairman of National Sports Commission (NSC), Tammy Wenike Danagogo, led a three-man delegation including former FIFA Executive board member Dr. Amos Adamu and former scribe of the NFF, Bolaji Ojo-Oba back to Brazil to explain the reasons for the development at the Glass House. But last night, Nigeria contravened FIFA's statues, namely: 13, par. 1 and article 17, par. 1 oblige member associations to manage their affairs independently and with no influence from third parties.
