Central African Republic Calls On AfDB's Support in Strengthening Management of Public Finances, Says Former Prime Minister André Nzapayéké

"The re-engagement of AfDB in my country, which is undergoing enormous financial difficulties, was at the heart of our discussions with African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka," André Nzapayéké, former Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, said on September 9 2014, after a meeting with Kaberuka at the Bank headquarters in Abidjan.

"We discussed the budgetary support granted by the Bank two months ago. This support is to help the State assert its authority, conduct the electoral process, strengthen national dialogue, reform the management of public finance and implement the redeployment of the Administration over the country. The AfDB has an essential role to play in helping the country out of its difficulties," he added.

"The President of the Republic, Catherine Samba-Panza, has, therefore, tasked me with asking the AfDB President to provide assistance to our country, through advocacy with international bodies to obtain their support." According to André Nzapayéké, the AfDB President is committed to making every effort to help the Central African Republic find a comprehensive solution to its difficulties.

Appointed Prime Minister of the Central African Republic transitional government in January 2014, André Nzapayéké was a socio-economist at the AfDB before becoming an AfDB Executive Director representing the countries of Central Africa. Before his appointment as Prime Minister, he had been Vice-President of the Central African States Development Bank (BDEAC).
