Monitoring and Evaluation in Land Policy - Harmonization a Must

1 October 2014
press release

Addis Ababa — The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) will organize an Experts' Group Meeting (EGM) to lay the ground for piloting the LPI Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework. The EGM will serve as a platform for dialogue on strengthening the synergies between the LPI, the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Results Framework, and other relevant programmes. The meeting will be held on 23 and 24 October 2014, at the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The main objective of the EGM is to develop a roadmap to support the implementation of the LPI M&E pilots in selected countries, in the context of enhanced harmonization with the CAADP Results Framework. The meeting will identify key thematic areas and indicators that will be tracked in the M&E pilots, and agreed on the methodology and modalities for implementing the pilots. It is also expected that the meeting will provide clear pathways for fostering synergies and alignment with other frameworks.

The EGM will be structured around a series of presentations, plenary discussions, and group work on specific items and elements of the piloting: indicators, data, coordination and reporting mechanisms, and roles and responsibilities.

About 30 participants including M&E experts, land, agriculture, and data specialists from Regional Economic Communities, farmers' organizations, and coordinators of the Food Security Thematic Programme in pilot countries will take part in the meeting.

The Land Policy Initiative is a joint programme of the tripartite consortium consisting of the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Its mandate is to facilitate the implementation of the AU Declaration on Land Issues and Challenges in Africa.
