The African Development Bank (AfDB) participated to the 6th International Financial Institutions Career Fair from November 10-11, 2014 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The event was being organized and hosted by the Korean Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF), cooperation with the multilateral development banks (MDBs) namely, AfDB, Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Eight international organizations were represented at the event, registration and attendance was free of charge for interested candidates in Korea. The event was successful, with an overwhelming attendance of over 600 participants.

In Korea this large career fair is held each year since 2009. The AfDB has participated in the event every year from the beginning and provides Bank's career policy, planning, personal development consulting, and mentoring service for participants. The program this year included an in-depth session of career information at the Bank, discussions with a Human Resources Department representative and professional staff on networking and understanding the AfDB job market, which was highly appreciated by the participants, as well as a résumé clinic, and conducting of one-on-one interviews with the pre-selected candidates for a possible Korean Internship Programme.

The objectives of the event are to: promote career opportunities in the Bank including the internship, consultants, regular professionals, and Young Professionals Programme (YPP); increase the numbers of underrepresented groups in the Bank for diversity needed; strengthen the Bank's relationship with Korea; and raise AfDB's profile as one of the most prominent development organizations in Africa.

Amir Zahir, Division Manager of Corporate Human Resources Department at AfDB, stressed that "The AfDB is in a recruitment freeze at the moment. Since the Bank has returned to its headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, this year from Tunis, Tunisia, where it has temporarily relocated for an 11 years. Therefore we don't have many positions now. However, AfDB will consider opening positions of consultants and others as usual if it is necessary. We would like to advise interested applicants to register their profile through our applications for consultancies website (DACON): http://dacon.afdb.org/dacon." AfDB DACON is a database of individual consultants and consulting firms maintained by the African Development Bank Group.

The Bank is committed to having a workforce that is reflective of its member country profile. To achieve this, various recruitment outreach initiatives will be taking place in the future. Potential employees are encouraged to visit the AfDB Careers section of the website at www.afdb.org/careers.
