The first peer review assessment meeting of the Africa Knowledge for Results Initiative (Afrik4R) in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) region will be held in Dakar, Senegal, from February 3 to 5. This meeting will be attended by 150 representatives from eight countries. It has been organised by the African Community of Practice on Managing for Development Results (AfCoP-GRD) with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Following on from the WAEMU Community of Practice established in April 2013, this event aims to improve the implementation of Managing for Development Results (MDR) in national practice and to accelerate implementation of three key regional policies: management of public finances, facilitation of trade and improving the business climate.
The eight national delegations are each composed of 15 high-level representatives from the senior management of the civil service, civil society, the private sector, and also from parliaments, women's organizations and youth organizations. Their task over the three days will be to review the MDR performance and practice of every AfriK4R partner country in the WAEMU zone. Discussions will culminate in setting an action plan and a firm commitment to actions aimed at rapid, concrete results in relevant policies.
The opening session will be attended by Khadim Diop, Senegal's Minister of African Integration, NEPAD and the Promotion of Good Governance; the AfDB Resident Representative in Senegal, Mamadou Lamine N'Dongo; Joint President of AfCoP, Seydou Yayé; and Victoria Chisala, AfDB's Manager, Quality Assurance and Results Department, and the AfDB AfCoP Project Coordinator.
