South Sudan: Five Journalists Killed in Convoy Ambush

Journalists Musa Mohamed Dhaiyah, Randa George Adam, Dalia Marko, Adam Juma and Boutros Martin were killed in a roadside attack in Western Bahr al-Ghazal State, South Sudan on Jan. 25, 2015.

The five were travelling as part of a two-car convoy with newly-elected County Commissioner Maradom James Benjamin, who was returning from a visit to victims of a previous attack in the area, when heavily-armed men ambushed the convoy.

Musa Mohamed Dhaiyah was the director of Raja FM radio station. Randa George Adam, Dalia Marko and Adam Juma worked as reporters for Raja FM. Boutros Martin worked as a cameraman for South Sudan Television (SSTV).

As of Jan. 28, 2015, the identity of the attackers remained unclear. Shortly after the attack, a South Sudanese military spokesperson said it bore the hallmarks of Ugandan armed group the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA).

However, the governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State disputed that, saying that South Sudanese rebels were behind the attack.
