Addis Ababa, 28 March 2015 (ECA-AUC) - Experts have endorsed the 'Financing for Development - Africa's perspectives' document and have called upon African negotiators to use the outcomes of the regional consultations as inputs in negotiating the outcome document of the third International Conference on Financing for Development.
This was contained in the draft report of the Committee of Experts of the Eighth Joint annual meetings of the African Union Specialised Technical Committee of Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration and the Economic Commission for Africa Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development meeting held in Addis Ababa from 25-27 March.
The Experts also called upon the African Union, Economic Commission for Africa, Africa Development Bank and the United Nations Development Programme "to consolidate the principles contained in the document financing for development: Africa's perspectives into a common African position on financing for development" read part of the draft report.
Earlier, a joint regional consultation on financing for development was held also in Addis Ababa from 23-24 March 2015 in the lead up to the third International Conference on Financing for Development which will be held in Addis Ababa from 23-26 July 2015.
Meanwhile, the Committee of Experts also endorsed the report of the High-level Conference on Data Revolution, adopted its recommendations and called upon member States, the AU, ECA, AFDB and other partners to fast-track the implementation of the Yamoussoukro Declaration on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics.
The meeting resolved "to lead the African Data Revolution, bringing together diverse data communities and using a wide-range of data resources, tools and innovative technologies, with a view to providing timely and disaggregated data for decision-making, service delivery, citizen engagement and information to drive Africa's social, economic and structural transformation" read the draft report in part.
The meeting also undertook to ensure that the Africa data revolution was built on principles of openness across the data value chain and on vibrant date ecosystems driven by national priorities and anchored in national statistics systems that were inclusive of all data communities and stakeholders.
Further the Experts commended member States that have signed and ratified the African Charter on Statistics and calls upon those who have not done so to sign and ratify is as soon as possible.
