ECA Signs Agreement With University of Cape Town to Promote Africa's Development Agenda

Cape Town — The Executive Secretary of ECA, Mr. Carlos Lopes and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, South Africa, Prof. Max Price signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions at the premises of the University of Cape Town, on 13th May 2015.

The MOU, which is a culmination of about two years of discussion and negotiation, seeks to deepen the relationship between the two institutions in support of Africa's development agenda. Areas of cooperation contained in the MOU include the production and publication of a joint journal - The African Journal of Development Alternatives; internship and fellowship programmes; joint research, workshops and conferences; training and capacity development for young Africans, and exchange programmes by the two institutions.

The University of Cape Town is one of Africa's leading universities with a track record of knowledge production and basic research, while ECA as a pan-African UN institution undertakes policy and applied research and knowledge production and promotes discourse, consensus and advocacy on key development issues on the continent.

The collaboration between the two institutions is expected to deepen the synergy between the knowledge and policy communities in Africa, enhance Africa's skills and capacity and ensure a better articulation and implementation of Africa's development agenda.
