Kenya: New Traffic Rules a Relief for Motorists

Times were when every traffic police officer was equipped with and carried a 'ticket' book and booked offenders to appear in court or pay fines through postal orders or whatever analogue system was available then.

The traffic cop of yesteryears would stop a vehicle at a decent spot, thoroughly inspect it by going round to check that all the tyres were of decent tread, that all the main, brake and signal lights were working, before asking the driver to honk and apply the handbrake. With the handbrake on, the officer would actually try to push the car to find out whether the brakes worked or not.
